Recipes for Camping - Trail Mix and Snacks

Backpackers Trail Mix

Find campfire snack and trail mix recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granola
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 1 cup favorite cereal
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • ½ cup favorite dry snack

Equipment:

  • small Ziploc baggies
  • bowl or large Ziploc bag

Preparation:

Mix everything in a bowl or put in a large Ziploc bag and shake. Add anything extra you want, as long as it’s dry. Split up into small baggies to share with the rest of your troop!

Camping Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Chex cereal
  • ½ cup dried fruit bits
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ½ cup M&M’s

Equipment:

  • Small Ziploc baggies
  • Bowl or large Ziploc bag

Preparation:

Mix everything in a bowl or put in a large Ziploc bag and shake. Split up into small baggies to share or leave in the big bag.

 

 

Yummy Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • Corn Puff cereal
  • Cheerios
  • Cheddar Goldfish snacks
  • Raisins

Equipment:

  • Small Ziploc baggies
  • Bowl or large Ziploc bag

Preparation:

Mix everything in a bowl or put in a large Ziploc bag and shake. If you are making it a couple days before the trip, keep the ingredients fresh by storing the first 3 ingredients in a plastic container and the raisins in another container. Split up into personal baggies or leave it in a big bag.

 

 

Twisted Trail Mix

Trail Mix Recipes

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Goldfish crackers, any flavor
  • 1 box Teddy Grahams, any flavor
  • 1 can mixed nuts, any assortment
  • 1 big bag M&M’s
  • 1 box raisins or craisins

Equipment:

  • large bowl
  • big spoon
  • Ziploc bag(s)

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl or put in a large Ziploc bag and shake. When mixed, divide up into smaller individual bags. Keep in a cool, dry place.

 

 

Energy Bars Camping Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 ½ cups peanut butter, smooth or chunky
  • 5 cups whole grain cereal flakes
  • 6 ounces mixed dried fruit bits

Equipment:

  • Saucepan
  • 12” x 7 ½” x 2 “ baking pan

Preparation:

In a saucepan, stir together brown sugar and honey. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add peanut butter, stir until smooth. Stir in cereal flakes then add the dried fruit bits.

While still hot, spread into greased baking pan. Spread 1/3 cup fruit bits on top and press into mixture. Let it cool. Cut into bars and wrap each in saran wrap. Refrigerate before the trip if desired.

 

 

Dutch Oven Popcorn

Recipes for Camping - Trail Mix and Snacks

Ingredients:

  • popcorn
  • ½ cup (or 1 stick) butter or margarine
  • salt

Equipment:

  • Dutch oven
  • brown paper bag

Preparation:

Melt butter in the Dutch oven. Cover majority of the bottom of the oven with a layer of popcorn. Place lid on the oven and bake until the corn stops popping. During popping time, rotate the over to stir the popcorn. Pour popped corn into a paper bag. Pour additional melted butter over the top and season with salt. Shake the bag. Eat!
